I've been riding a friend's horse and when he's wound up about something, he stamps his front legs as he walks/trots. It's almost like he's doing a spanish walk! My instructor says it's just his way of having a bit of a tantrum.

Has anyone else experienced this with their horse and how did you get them out of it?

Chico does this when he is stood and getting impatient. I call it a 'foot tantrum' and he gets corrected when he does it but it just seems to be one of his quirks

That's the weird thing, he doesn't do it when he's standing, he just fidgets about then. I've seen loads of horses stamp their front feet when standing, but have never come across one who does it when working!

All horses do this when they are unhappy with something, or being impatient.

My new mare does it if she sees her feed bowl coming to her, or if I tie her up and walk out of sight she also does it.

My thoroughbred does it from time to time when hes bored but thats it...
its their way of saying ''for **** sake, just give me what I want!''

My instructor told me off for blocking my youngster, even though I had some idea I was "asking for contact", maybe you need to try tweaking your contact.
I have some NEW boots which have a hard backing to prevent tendon injuries, my boy kinda lifted his front leg up and forward when I was walking him out of the stable, to tell me I had one on too tight!
