My rising 2 year old often stands strangely in his stable. It’s not something we’ve ever seen with our other horses before. He stands with his off hind in front of his near hind whilst eating his hay sometimes.
is he just weak and has soft ligaments meaning he can stand in such a way or is there something to be concerned about?
thanks in advance

I have owned one horse who did this. I even started a thread on here about it, I'll try and find it. He was sound jumping huge hedges for 5 years before he passed a five stage vetting when I sold him, so I would try not to worry.

I have one that does this and often has his hind legs crossed underneath him. A vet spotted it at the RDA licensing visit and gave him a work up test for anything neurological. He passed that ok. Five years later he was diagnosed with SI problems and ended up getting retired to me. His tail also kinks to one side, more so when he is feeling sore.

I would just keep an eye on yours and note if it ever gets any worse, or if he also stands square a reasonable amount of the time. Mine hardly ever stands square.
