Horse started coughing - seasonal allergies?

The cough is intermittent, no nasal or eye discharge or any other off symptoms, it's not specific to when he's eating hay or grazing or working. Just 3-4 times a day I'll hear a cough. I'm not familiar enough with the local trees and whatnot to know if it's "pollen season" or anything particular I should be aware of. Only one of two horses are doing it, but this is their first fall/winter in the UK, we live near Chester. Thoughts on what else I should be checking or trying?
 
If it is very prolonged or you notice any other symptoms then I would chat to your Vet.

Other than that I have found dry coughs are often resolved by themselves, usually caused by a virus I thought?
