We've got a hunt horse on holiday to keep my horse happy and peaceful and I've noticed that when he rolls he will get down, roll and then when trying to get up struggle a bit with his back end like he can't quite take all the weight on his hind legs. He then, once up, will charge around bucking like a loonie. His owner has told me he normally rolls quite sensibly when he's on his own.

Am I right in thinking something's NOT quite right?!! He's obviously had a very hard season but he should be able to roll and get up ok. To me it seems as though he's got major back pain or a problem with his back legs. Or is it because he's in the field with another horse, they bugger about a lot and its him feeling stupid?

how old is he? might be worth videoing and sending a copy to the owner so she can see how he is rolling. my old one has problems rebalancing when getting up if the surface isn't hard for him to brace against ie like a sand school but he is 30

Is he losing muscle after now? Jacob has poor hind leg conformation giving him almost arthritic symptoms but it is improving as he muscles and the warmer weather kicks in. When he rolls he sits on his bum for a while almost psyhcing himself up to stand. Perhaps he's going the other way.
