Hi

I have been travelling my 16.2hh warmblood in an i-for williams trailer for just over 2 years with no problems. However the last two trips have been stressful in the fact that he has started stumbling around and not being able to stand still around corners, evern at very slow speeds. I do not know of any incident or reason that could explain this and nothing has changed in his routine etc. Has anyone experienced anything similar and suggestions?? Thank you

This happened to my friend, it got to the stage he was trying to climb the wall (from marks on the trailer) and eventually he fell. He then used to fall as soon as she set off. Removing the centre partition and putting full width breast/breach bars solved the problem. This seems to be a common problem even with horses that have travelled with no previous problems.

I had a similar problem with my mare in my lorry - she is only a small TB mare and the partitions were set up to take big warmbloods, so I thought she would have plenty of room to balance, but i have found that if I open the partition up to give her more room she was more comfortable.

I have gradually been able to close the partition back to its normal position over time - so I would do as Louby says - try traveling him without the partition for a while if possible and see if he can regain his confidence in the trailer.

Same thing happened with my friends horse - used to travel fine, then started scrabbling up the wall as she went round corners - he got worse so now she has to travel him without the partition and he is fine

Add another one to all those! My mare was exactly the same and travelling without the partition sorted it immediately. Bit of a pain as now I can only travel her on her own but better than nothing. Good luck. Full width breast bars are around £40.

Thank you everyone for your help, I have contacted ifor williams to see prices for a full breast bar...fingers crossed! Many thanks once again CLB

Thanks everyone - thought i would let you know after buying a single breast bar he has been travelling fine (fingers crossed) more room seams to have solved his trailer fears!
