Nothing has changed in her routine, she has always been an angel to catch.

On sat she had her muzzle on after I had ridden. She let me go up to her in the field and slip it on, she managed to get it of herself sometime in the day . I went up a 9.30pm to check her over and take the muzzle off, she came over to me and I gave her a bit of a fuss and left.

Sunday, walked straight up to her and got her in to ride. Turned back out and returned at 9 pm to check over. Absolutly fine.

Monday, walked torwards her and her ears go back, she turns her bum on me. I try to walk around and again she turns her bum on me. Walk around and she allows me to catch her and bring her in. Give her a good groom and turn back out.

Yesterday, walked torwards, she turns bum on me. This continued for a good 5 minutes. I only managed to get her when she was wedged between a Horse and leccy fencing and she couldn't turn her bum on me. Got her in and rode, turned back out with a fieldsafe headcollar on.

I have never had any problems catching her, no idea why she has just started doing this! she is only ever hacked out which she enjoys. I think she may be in season. But usually she never acts this way (all the mares have been playing up over the last week)

Has something happened in the field that you are not aware of ? My horses watched a fatal dog attack on a cow in the next door field, which made them very unsettled and wary. Had I not heard about it, I would have been puzzled by their behaviour.

Alternatively, the mares I've had seem to have one season each year where they are PITA's and want to be left alone. I generally take the pressure off, give them a few days grace and wait for normal service to be resumed.

Other than that, no idea, but she's telling you something if its out of character.

Mine started doing this when she first developed spavins and then when her back was sore so it might be something niggling her. Mine also does it if she spies a muzzle though - could it be that?

She is a strange one. She was right at the back of the field and on my way to her I noticed the fieldsafe headcollar on the floor. Crap I thought, not only do I gave to replace my friends headcollar I won't be able to catch her. She spots me and carries on eating. I go straight to her and she lets me put a headcollar on. Gave her a huge fuss and then let her go again. Left the fieldsafe headcollar on (it wasn't broken she must have just got it off) incase she has a change of heart tomorrow! Lol blooming mares!
