horse swapping?

Random question but has anyone ever swapped their horse and if so how did you go about it? Is there a site or something?

Thing is I love my boy and he's talented with lots of potential. However I've come to realise I actually just want a 'been there done that' type I can just enjoy for what they are. My boy would make a great horse for someone that wants to bring a horse on to event. What I want is an older schoolmaster, doesn't need to be a world beater just a nice honest sort for local level competing. Is there any mileage in trying to find a suitable swap with someone that's wanting to move up whilst I move down? :D
 
Contact local pony club. Often there are teens who are looking to move up the levels and have a lovely been there done that sort, but who want something with more scope.
 
Yep - friends of mine did exactly that, one lady was slightly over horsed and wanted a nice hack, the other had outgrown the ability of her lovely boy. It worked out really well and both very happy with the arrangement. Word of mouth I'd have thought is the way to go so mention to your farrier, instructor, local PC and local riding clubs - as many people as you can think of, possibly even try the local facebook horsey group.
 
I think the chances of you finding somebody who has exactly what you want and also wants to have your horse are very slim. Theses swaps usually come about from conversations or people who know someone, who knows someone. I would have thought it is better to sell your then get looking for a new one. Why restrict yourself to horses whos owners want to do a swap.
 
Thanks guys. Will have a chat to my instructor as she is involved in the local pony club. I may well go down the selling route but this feels emotionally easier somehow
 
I did :)

I was advertising my old horse and had a response from someone who sounded absolutely perfect for him. However, she had to sell her mare first.
Just in conversation, I asked what she was selling. At the time I was selling Red and having a break, maybe for a few weeks while I looked around and also decided if whilst not having a horse, I was happy.
She told me all about her mare and she really appealed to me.

So I went to try her...

A few days later, we boxed Red up and took him to her and bought back Chloe!

All worked out very well, initially.. then she sold Red :(:(:(


I wouldn't say it's easy to go out looking for a swop, but if it happens it can work out well! Our story certainly did initially, she kept Red for about 18 months before selling him.
