Hey there :).

So today I was riding a lesson on my charming Welsh Cob x TB, doing our usual thing when I decided that it was time to train his Two Time Changes as he is still a bit insecure with doing them. As usual though, he'll do say 6 correct strides (3 wonderful changes) and then blow and through an almighty trantrum (numerous bucks one after the other and then galloping off) - the more we practice the longer he'll put up with the changes as not too long ago we struggled with doing the two consecutive two times changes, so it clearly does get better. This isn't a new trick of his and he pulls the SAME stunt whenever he has to learn something new (When I just got him he did it whenever we schooled his transitions, he did it when we introduced him to leg yields, even more so when the shoulder ins came in and he HATED learning the Renvers - so you can imagine what he did when we taught him the half pass) - I'm able to work through everything with him though and things eventually stop freaking him out (the above examples for instance, he use to hate them and now does them without blinking). I've gotten him through all of his nonsense before, but I'm wondering if any of you have had a the same problem with your horse? What did you do to "fix" or avoid the tantrum? Does anybody have any ideas on why he is doing this (it's not his tack - that gets checked regularly, he has a chiro out about once every 2 months as he has neck problems - so it's not that, the physio saw him not to long ago on a routine visit, his teeth are fine and the vet saw him a few days ago)? Is he just acting up?

Any advice will help :)
I'm tired of being bucked around :L

Have actually had him completely examined because not to long ago I thought the same thing (suspected kissing spine as I thought that it might be the collection of the new movements that is hurting him) - but after X-Rays and multiple vet visits (and nothing was found wrong) it was decided that he was sound (and he clearly is the way that he manages to carry on).

The "tantrum" I'm refering to is a "hot" type of tantrum though, it's as if he builds up too much energy or gets over excited - then he just reaches a point where he can't go anywhere but up (Like a steam cooker :P). He's absolutely chilled doing everything else - half passes, pirroutes, Renvers, Travers, Flying Changes, but these new Two Time Changes just seem to really excite him (as does anything new that he learns).

If it was pain related wouldn't ALL the movements hurt him, and not just the new ones he learns? He has never been lame a day in his life - his only "medical condition" (if you can even call it that) is that he hurt a vertebrae in his neck with his previous Show Jumping owner - but that gets a check up from the Chiro nearly monthly (every 2 months at worst).

Could there be any pain that isn't related to his tack or something that X Rays, Vets, the Chiro and the Physio can't pick up?
