Hey there
.
So today I was riding a lesson on my charming Welsh Cob x TB, doing our usual thing when I decided that it was time to train his Two Time Changes as he is still a bit insecure with doing them. As usual though, he'll do say 6 correct strides (3 wonderful changes) and then blow and through an almighty trantrum (numerous bucks one after the other and then galloping off) - the more we practice the longer he'll put up with the changes as not too long ago we struggled with doing the two consecutive two times changes, so it clearly does get better. This isn't a new trick of his and he pulls the SAME stunt whenever he has to learn something new (When I just got him he did it whenever we schooled his transitions, he did it when we introduced him to leg yields, even more so when the shoulder ins came in and he HATED learning the Renvers - so you can imagine what he did when we taught him the half pass) - I'm able to work through everything with him though and things eventually stop freaking him out (the above examples for instance, he use to hate them and now does them without blinking). I've gotten him through all of his nonsense before, but I'm wondering if any of you have had a the same problem with your horse? What did you do to "fix" or avoid the tantrum? Does anybody have any ideas on why he is doing this (it's not his tack - that gets checked regularly, he has a chiro out about once every 2 months as he has neck problems - so it's not that, the physio saw him not to long ago on a routine visit, his teeth are fine and the vet saw him a few days ago)? Is he just acting up?
Any advice will help
I'm tired of being bucked around :L
