Mystis a nightmare to lunge!
mad.gif

She prances round on a egg shaped circle sliding around (Fields muddy but none of the others have trouble) bashing her legs. Head in the air watching about 10 things at once

Ive tried everything, smaller circles, constantly talking ect
crazy.gif

To top it all she will be walking round like a angel then suddenly gallop off

Cant use a whip as she just gallops round and round then falls over
crazy.gif

She does know the voice commands she just has v.selective hearing!!

lunge on two lines?

I do this with Frank in the winter, stops him getting carried away in the field in the winter as he seems to loose his sense of self preservation sometimes.

has she actually been taught to lunge?

Odd as it may sound, maybe something in the Dengie Healthy Hooves. I put my ponies on it as my local feed shop were no longer selling happy hoof and it sent my ponies mad, they became really spooky and difficult to ride and handle! Looked that the ingredients and it contains Alfa A and Molases... which Happy hoof doesnt...

Lunge her with 2 lines and in a roller, the lines act a bit like side reins then. Don't work out of walk, don't just work on the same circle, work over poles in walk etc. Basically vary it a bit. My, generally pretty sane, horse canters around like the wall of death on the lunge because he's bored. So, I don't lunge, I long rein if I can't ride.

You need to teach her to stop falling in, which is where the outside rein comes in. Lunge with 2 lines / long rein and have a good contact on the outside rein to stop her from falling in.

Just started mine on Blue Chip Karma - it seems to be doing the trick. He has the odd stupid moment but in general appears to be able to concentrate more on me and working than what is out in the field. Improvements both riding and on the lunge.

If you lunge in side reins or a pessoa, she will be working in a shape and using the correct muscles. I find if i put the lunge line through the bit and over the head instead of using a cavesson that my little mare cannot gallop off as she used to because i am squeezing and releasing on her mouth, not continually pulling, so she can't lean on the bit and bomb off.
