Pet Theft Awareness Week will be holding it's third annual awareness week this March (14th-21st March 2015) www.pettheft.co.uk
PTA are campaigning for tougher laws to prevent horse and pet theft.

Please could you help them by completing the horse theft survey and also if possible the cat and dog theft surveys (all 3 surveys are user-friendly and should take less than 5 minutes each.

The surveys' results will help PTA lobby parliament, thank you:

Done horse and cat, but don't own any dogs!

Appreciate you posting this, I think more should be done in terms of animal theft.

Done / bumping.

What are the actual statistics on theft? Is it growing, or is the perception growing? I assume it is one or the other given the survey?

I don't think statistically that equine theft has been increasing over the last few years (maybe something to do with economical climate) but there have been some cases over the last few years.

There seems to be an increase in dog theft over the last few years however.

Stolen Horse Register is a fairly good guage of how many horses have been stolen, but not all are listed on there.

These are details of a small grey pony recently stolen (end of January) from Leicestershire - please keep a look out for him if going to markets etc.

My horse Ballymoss was stolen in 1981 (when horsetheft was beginning to emerge) so have always been affected by it. The laws have not changed since then. PTA are trying to help change the law and regard the theft of pets or horses as 'living possession' and not 'inanimate object' which they currently are.

This should be a poster of last year's PTA horse poster for some fairly recent stolen/missing horses.
