Hi, ive started to get my horse fit now he's at a new yard and we have lots of nice places to ride. Anyway now ive extended his hacking time from about 45 mins to and hr and half some days he's started throwing his head about and seems to just be getting annoyed after 40 mins, is it because im riding him for too long and he's not really fit yet, im only walking, or do you think his backs starting to hurt? im not too heavy for him so I know it's not that, and he's not really showing any other signs of discomfort.
Any ideas?

Probably just tired. Mine does it towards the end of the hack although he is better the more fitter he gets but also I think it has something to do with it being the last leg of the hack and he's eager to get back.

I'd have said he was getting back sore. I'd have his back, saddle and probably teeth for good measure. Probably in that order.

I will second that

Hi, his saddle and teeth have been checked recently, so that should be fine, we have a back lady coming to the yard in a couple of weeks, but she charges £70! and we're trying to save for our wedding, so may have to find someone a bit cheaper, ive never paid that much before.
Also I do think it may be tiredness, he's never done long rides before he's used to 20-30 min schooling and showing mostly, Hopefully as he gets fitter it will stop.

If it's JH, she's well worth it, and I'd highly recomend! Worth every penny. Plenty in our area who are total cowboys!

moomin....It could well STILL be his teeth. PM me and tell me who has done your horses teeth and i will tell you if there is any likleyhood its still his teeth. If I feel that it is, I will point you in the right direction to getting it resolved for you.

It could also be that his bridle becomes uncomfortable the longer he is ridden. I should check the fit, particularly of the browband/headpiece.

That could be the problem, his browband is snug, its not tight but also its not loose on the sides at all, i measured it today as I think I may get another one.
