Horse to Australia

Hi does anybody know how to get a horse to Australia affordably? I can't bear the idea of parting with my boy!!

Friend took hers to NZ - 5K about right.
Quarentine in UK then flew over. Arrived in excellent health. Pedens if I remember. Informed owner at every stage.

I looked into this when I went there to work. But as I was coming back after 18months it wasn't worth.

I got quote though, think they were about 8k to fly him there. Not sure if you can put them on a boat, but I'd think that would be a long journey that I wouldn't want to put my horse through, plus I've seen the black stallion

When are you going, is it a permanent move? Where to? I know any horse should acclimatise, but some horse can get miserable in the heat. Although I did know a lady over there who bred welsh ponys and highlands :)

I flew out with a load of stallions a few years ago and it was expensive enough then. A dedicated plane goes out every year between Christmas and New Year and then in the summer moving shuttle stallions from northern to southern hemisphere for the breeding season. The ones I flew out with were organised by Peden who took out horse and a few cattle from here to Aus and then brought back the Coolmore horses back to ireland. Going from the Uk to Aus they have to do four weeks of quarantine here and then another two weeks there (I think). I would think it would be around 10K now as I think it was 6k when I went out.

it costs about 12.5k to get a horse to australia... (that's to sydney anyways)

A friend of mine did some work for the IRT.. I don't no any other companies that fly horses...or even if there are any others?

You need to contact IRT or BBA Shipping or Luck Greayver Bloodstock

It will cost around £10,000 + depending upon if its a mare/stallion/gelding and of course the GST in Oz itself including the 4 weeks pre quarantine and once in OZ 3 weeks post quarantine.

Good luck

Hi I was looking in to this about 6 months ago to Perth also the horse needs a certain flu jab as they are very hot on that, any way it was going to cost 11500 that was quarantene both sides and flying. Also very hard to get a farrier for shoes in the part of australia i was going but the yards were cheaper than here. Lucky i decided not to go i just couldnt russle up the money and leave my hairy best friend plus my kids adore him. Good luck x

Try BBA shipping or pedens. Google them for websites and contact details. Price will vary according to the size of the load because if you transport one it costs the same as three because each jet pallet takes three stalls. This is why its good to do it when racehorses or shuttle stallions are going as cheaper and horse won't be alone. I took my boy to the UAE and will be flying him back too-no regrets and he travelled fine. I used BBA and they were excellent. If you contact shippers they will be able to give you the up to date quarantine requirements, check if your flu jabs need redoing, and give you an approx budget and timing.

I looked into it last year as my company were going to send me out to Perth - I didn't really want to go anyway so made taking 3 of the 4 my condition. It was going to be almost £52k and take 12 weeks total.

Thankfully that was far too much for them and they decided to send someone else!

I flew 3 horses with IRT out to Sydney 5 years ago. Cost me 7,000pounds each then including quarantine at each end and flights. I had to pay to drop them off and pick them up from quarantine separately though. I thoroughly recommend IRT, they are absolutely fantastic and I would not hesitate to use them again. In fact, have used them to ship horses to China from here for a client since and cannot fault them at all.

I wouldn't hesitate to ship horses out here again at all. My mares coped very well and cycled immediately (came out in Jan). They were relaxed and very happy.

I also shipped my dogs out, but would hesitate doing this again as my highly strung border collie took over a year to get over it.

Hope that helps, would be happy to provide more information for you if you like. Where are you planning to move to?
