Just got a Ifor Williams 510 and want cctv in back. Have done loads of Google searches plus on here to see which one to go for. Don't want to spend too much as have a lorry with cameras that will be used more than trailer.

Looked at the reversing cameras as they are cheaper and guessing it has to be wireless.
Cheap ones I've seen on eBay don't seem to have the cigarette plug in adaptor for monitor, just wires that need to be wired in somewhere but would prefer simple plug in for monitor.
Are there problems with interference using wireless.
Digital ones seem so much more expensive but I'm not technical enough to understand the difference.

Seen a maplin one on eBay 3.5" monitor. Wireless. Anyone use these? Or what do you recommend?

mine is wired into the box electrics, I brought mine from A rep company it can be unplugged for the plaiting but otherwise it is connected full time.
 
I think you are on a mission to make sure every single H&H forum person knows so job done.
Anyone else advise on points I asked.
 
I have the trailer vision on both my wagon and trailer, I know they aren't the cheapest but I have been able to send the cameras back and have them serviced rather than having to buy new again. If you try the others I would be interested in how you went on, I was concerned about false economy but have nothing to substantiate that.x

Try phoning up new trailer companies and see way they install into new trailers or horse boxes. They would have done some research into makes and models.
 
Not interference, but loosing the signal randomly and when reversing and turning. Mine has 2 cameras - 1 to see my horses and the other to see behind the trailer.

They all use trailer vision as far as I know. Not having digital is false economy as the reception is so much clearer and on the cheaper systems every time you go anywhere near another analogue system you will get there pictures on your monitor and vice a versa. They can be hard wired (ours are) as we have the Navara sat nav screen as the monitor but it is not a job for the feint hearted.

There are lots of very poor chinese systems on ebay which look good value but only two companies I would use one being trailer vision as they are just up the road,or this one and there kit is very good and they are very helpful if you call them

Please take note of the comments ROG made as having a monitor on the dash or were it can be seen is illegal if the driver can see the picture and like using a mobile whilst driving is very obvious to any police officer. Hence ours wired to the sat nav as easy to change screen showing.

The reason you need to unplug and take out for test is a different one .At test many leave the system wired in but move the monitor as it as the monitor blocks the full vision of the road from the windscreen on most trucks. If you get stopped youy are committing two offences so six points plus two fixed penalties

I've managed to find a maplin digital one for a good price, so hopefully no interference.

I have a trailer vision which works just fine and was great for sorting out my horses travelling issues!

On the above point, essentially you only want to know what is going on in the trailer if you can do something about it!, so I only (get my passenger to) look at the monitor if I have a plan where I can safely park if if it doesn't look good and I need to check.

I perfectly aware why I need to unplug it for the test thank you. Since I have been driving longer than most poster here including you I am sure. My monitor is the same size as a car rear view mirror so does not block any more than this does and since it is up where the rear mirror would be I fail to see how it can block my vision. Since I do not drive a long the road looking up at the rear view mirror my eyes are on the road. When I do look up at the mirror in a car for a split second before I pull out it is no difference glazing up the the CCTV rear view mirror size screen.

Since I have been driving my horsebox since 1997 and never been pulled for the camera it is staying in place - my risk no one Else's. Since I only glance up if there is a problem in the back or a crash. That I consider justified. For the need to pull over and find a safe place to stop and check in the back.

Since I studied for the HGV test I am fully aware of the doo's and dont's with HGV trucks.

CCTV is a bit different than if I was watching TV on one of my TV screens in my car dash, that obviously I would not do.

Its not what anyone considers reasonable or not or comparing it to doing anything else - looking at an internal CCTV view whilst driving is illegal unless an exemption applies so if a driver chooses to do it and gets caught then they must be prepared to accept any penalty
 
Well Pardon me!! I was pointing it out as part of what you said was incorrect and it was better others were aware!

Not you sorry ! but me being quoted above lol you will see I was saying the same as you . it really is cock up that law as for one it is illegal for the monitor to block the view of the road which is understandable ,however its illegal to monitor internal cctv yet perfectly ok to watch pictures from external cameras,because they are deemed to be safety related

You may be doing differently but merely unplugging it before a test will not stop it failing if it is obscuring the drivers view of the road which is normally accepted as the area swept by the wipers . I only made the comment because several people have the monitor on the dashboard which nearly always blocks this view and just adjusting the angle of it short term is enough to pass the mot plugged in or not.
Obviously if you have the mirror type monitor thats not something thats an issue . Do you also have a rear camera because going through traffic I find it useful to watch the idiots behind

The testers at Newbury testing station say unplug it. (the fact we remove it from the windscreen is something I did not say) So that is what is done by my mechanic. Yes I do have a rear camera too which helps with reversing/ parking.

See there is my issue, if your on a quiet lane and need to reverse and you use the monitor for reversing and avoiding getting too close or hitting the vehicle behind. The monitor is acting like a rear view mirror, even though not driving forward your still driving and using the monitor. Yes if down low on the dash where it is in the way I think yes it can obscure things including pedestrians who walk in front. The problem is the law has not kept up with the technology , I see to many HGV drivers watching telly as they are driving along and this is what it was to combat.
 
To be fair I all I said was that I unplugged it for the test, I did not say I left it on the windscreen, all though because that is all I said I did prior to the test, it might be construed that way.
