My mare travels terribly! I need some advice on best ways to keep her calm and settled when traveling as I am running out of ideas. She always travels with my little shetland whom is always very calm in the trailer, and I always make sure that she has acsess to hay. We keep the back windows open so that there is always good ventilation and the floor has got rubber matting. However whenever it comes to traveling she will load fine and we will set off, (driving very carefully may I add) but as soon as we hit a corner she will fall. My mare used to travel fine but one day on the way back from cross country we noticed a terrible crashing every time we went round a corner when we got her out of the box she was dripping with sweat and had shredded her hindleg shipping boots. So since then things have alway been this way :( I need some ideas as I am hoping to do some showing/beach rides this summer. I have just ?purchased some of the NAF magic calmer shots in the hope that this will help to calm her when she is in the box, will it? Any ideas would be just amazing?

My friends mare was like this once she removed partition and let her spread her legs to balance she was fine. She was a big mare and just didn't have room in single partition.Cross tying helped her too.:)

thanks, I'll try she's been on the drivers side whenever I travel her because she is usually accompanied by my shetland. Apparently you have to put the largest horse on the driver's side for balance but I will try swapping tommorow :) Thanks again!

okay I'll try this It seems to make sense the only problem is when I need to put both horses in the box! But I guess if I can get her settled without the partition she may be calmer when I put the partition back :) thanks again!

Hi,
I second the partition removal....it worked with a horse of mine.
Re the Shetland issue....I once saw a small pony standing straight across the front of the trailer......between the jockey door and front ramp. The people had built a solid breast bar to the floor so there was a wall between the pony and the big horse that was without the partition....and this worked really well for them. I have to add that the big horse liked the pony and didn't bite it.
Best of luck
Bryndu
