I am considering a rear facing trailer as they appear to be better for the horse - any comments on this?

There also only appears to be 3 manufacturers - Equi-Trek, Rice and Richardson. Any comments on their quality, design and durability? Two of them have a "plastic" floor - only the Equi-trek has a metal floor - does any one have any experience of this type of floor?

many thx.

Take your time looking at all the different ones on the market each to their own prefference, we see a lot of satisfied customers who purchase Ifor, Equi-Treks, Rice and Richardson.

The new Ifors look very nice, saw one from a distance today and the window at the front is bigger than before. I owned one and was highly delighted with it, hold their value well too. Do believe the Equi-Treks and pretty good, girl at our yard has one and loves it.

I have no experience with rear facing trailers but for a 'normal' trailer I recommend Bateson without reservation. They are well built, the ride quality is great & they don't rattle like many other makes, the floor height is much lower than others so the ramp is shallower. They are light & airy & very inviting for the horse. They have 2 saddle racks at the front as standard. You can have the option of either ramp or Barn doors on the back & the exit ramp is on the correct side to offload onto pavement in an emergency. They will take horses up to 17h, many will only take up to 16h2" & then you have to buy one of the bigger models.

'Plastic' floors sound somehow cheap & nasty but they aren't. They are a kind of platsic & resin & are very strong, can't corrode, easy to clean & have been used for years without problems. I had a Bateson Deauville, I used it for 4 years before changing to a lorry. I would have another without giving a second thought & when I sold it I only got £300 less than when I bought it so depreciation is low.

Bateson trailers all the way. i looked for a long time and researched everything and in fact bateson trailers are superior to ifor williams. ifors are just the fashionable trailer to have which makes them more popular by default. i used to have an ifor and would never go back. The Bateson are light airy, don't rattle, hold their value, and have an off load ramp on the correct side for easy un loading and emergency on to a pavement. I would never buy anything other than a bateson now. I wold urge anyone who can to look it one in the flesh before deciding to buy other trailers. i am sure you will be converted

Thx - I hadn't considered Bateson. They do have advantage of lightweight, low floor so can carry large horses and tow weight of 2300kg is within my car capabilities. They also have a part steel/ part plastic floor which does acknowledge that plastic isn't as strong....They are also quite a bit cheaper, so not sure additional premium for rear facing is worth it.

Further questions on accessories:
1. anti-snaking devices - are these accesories or manufacturer fit/spec?
2. can you get "parking motors" - like you can for caravans?
4. trailer cameras - pricey but worth it?
5. anything generally recommend getting to make life easier?

many thx again

For anyone thinking of getting an Ifor Williams trailer- apparrently the new ones aren't as good as the older models. Heard someone other than Iffor Williams himself is involved and they have cut corners. Loads of problems - of course taking into account we only hear the bad things often - I.m sure there are lots that are fine. BUT still worht bearing in mind. We were going to buy one but are looking at other makes now as well.
