Horse Transport from Ireland (VAT Question)

hi,
I have had horses before from Ireland but over 5 years ago,can you tell me why i would have to give a VAT number when I am not vat regestered to bring the horse back? and also do most people pay them though a bank? as they are charging for doing bank transtactions to ireland.

They need a vat number so as not to have to charge you vat. It done by the reverse mechanism, (they put your vat number in the vat column of the invoice). I certainly only accept payment by transfer as I am charged for any other sort of transaction including paying in cash!
