Only used one twice, once so long ago and once was someone working on the farm for a bit so did me a special price.

How does it work. I assume per mile, both ways or one way?
Roughly what kind of money would it cost per mile? I know all companies will vary. Just trying to work an idea on cost.

There is a quote website ( i forget what its called but google will know) you put in the journey details and then you get quotes back. i then went onto the transporters website to read their reviews. I must admit i then telephoned for 'their best quote' which did work out slightly cheaper.
If you are willing to wait you could get a shared load, or the transporter organising a return load therefore reducing costs. There are so many variables it is probably best to phone around with what you need and their availability.

When I was looking to get my new horse home we just contacted a few and went with who sounded good at a good price. We got a small private transporter who worked around ferry times for us and only cost £50 more compared to a shared load that could only go on a particular day that didn’t work in with ferry times.
The company we went with was professional and had good communication. We told them where to pick up and drop off and they quoted a price

I asked for recommendations on here a couple of months back. Had 3 names to try, one didn't reply in time but two gave reasonable, timely quotes. The one I chose gave an excellent service with good communication between me and the seller.

I think a basic call-out and then £1/ mile for the return mileage is what I’ve been quoted in the last couple of years- could obviously have changed quite a bit in that time with the economic climate. That’s was a local, though nationally travelling company both with a 3.5t or 7.5t individual load.

Where are you trying to get from/ to? Maybe someone here could recommend companies?

Sorry didn't say what I was charged. It was about £1 per mile, 138 miles each way, charged £300 for single load, inc £50 deposit.
