Horse very frisky in cold weather

It was -4 where I keep George this evening, he had been in as the ground was so frozen (this doesn't normally bother him), but on the horse walker twice. When I went to ride he didn't want to stand for me to get on, then he was off, not dangerous just really full of himself and quite bolshy (not like George), I did loads of walk/trot work and he sort of settled. Just wondered if anyone elses horses react like this to v cold frosty weather??

Oh yes.Me,my mother in law,and 2 of my friends took out 6 horses between us today(at one time).I was riding one and leading one and so was my friend.All of them were completly wired,and wizzy!!!
I think it is pretty common!

Definatly, the majority of horses I have ridden and seen ridden have been a bit frisky.
Just getting a cold breeze under their tails.

Oh gosh yes!! My old boy used to go crazy frisky in the cold. And Star was pulling like a tank today

Yes my girl's pony is a bit frisky when it's cold

but I suppose they drag him out the field and take his mega cosy rug off and he is hunter clipped so must be a bit nippy on his un-furry bits !

yeh my 3 yr old is skitzing out- which is good. as hes lazier than my other horse (only just got him) and its good he actually moves now lol xxx

lots of ours are being wizzy at the moment, even the quietest riding school ponies have a 'look' in their eyes LOL especially if they are being kept in. 100% normal I think but usually improves once they get used to the colder weather and new routine. ENJOY!

Thank goodness, i thought he'd gone a bit loopy! Probably should have put his fleece exercise sheet on, he only has a bib clip, but his coat isn't that woolly.

Dont panic! Mine was a bit of a loon last night as well, very joggy and on his toes! and he is the TB without a pulse most of the time! Totally refused to walk and kept crabbing sideways, put in a few bucks when asked to canter too!!!! But oh boy was the trot work good!!!!

My boy has been very forward going (usually a dobbin) since being clipped and the weather turning colder - it's great

James goes nuts when its frosty - but then hes a git to ride every winter anyway!!!!

lol mine's not even clipped but I use an exercise sheet in cold weather, at least to warm up in. he's not very woolly and is blinking sharp!

definitely - I went out for a hack at 3pm last night and despite inch thick ice everywhere the horse I was riding decided he could not walk anywhere and kept squeeling and jogging and wanting to canter at every opportunity. He has never been like this before!! He was quite sweaty when we got back despite being a very short hack and about 2 degrees! Mad ponio - he was fine after we went for a flat out gallop though on the only piece of defrosted ground I could find!
