My gelding came in today with two, quarter sized cuts on the inside of his stifle area, sort of near his groin. They just are very superficial, literally just the first layer of skin pulled away and a bit of blood oozing from it, something I see on a regular basis and is no big deal. I treated it how I do the rest of them, however this one seems exceptionally painful for him? When id put a damp cotton on it to clean it he’d quickly lift his leg and limp away from the (very minimal) pressure. It’s not hot or swollen, and he is not lame, but is very tender to the area. I don’t think it’s from a kick as it would have to be a very talented and strategic hit to get that area so I’m not sure if it would be bruised? But who knows what he did lol. Is it normal for fresh wounds to be sore? I’d assume so but he’s never acted this way with a cut. Not even the deeper ones that are sometimes accompanied by infection.
