merlin is very very very wet in his stable at the moment!! he goes out in the day and is stabled at night. on normal shavings with rubber mats at the front of the stable for him to stand on.

he is seriously wet - im lucky if i can go 4 days without needing to put a new bale of shavings in!!

what would the most absorbant bed to put him on? or any ideas that would make him less wet?!?

he is also on restore at the moment as a clean out before serious work, but i hope he will be a little dryer

Put more bedding in would be my advice. But tbh I have a horse on rubber matting, and I put a bale in every three days.....

You could try Nedz Bed... it's cheaper than even the cheapest shavings and I find it more absorbant than the likes of Aubiose and hemcore which I'd use in preference to shavings.

My filly goes through about 2 bales a week but she is in 24/7...

Just a thought but if he's urinating a lot more than usual there might be another problem. My old pony was drinking and weeing a lot more than usual a while ago. The vet took bloods and urine and he had a low grade virus and an urinary tract infection. All cleared up now with anti-biotics and rest and he's back to normal. Also found coarse grain sawdust is a lot more absorbant than shavings, so I use a mix of the two.

I have just put my very wet horse on nedz advance - it is pelleted and it was weird when I put it down because it looks like pony nuts but I love it now!! I was taking around1/3 of the bed out every day because he was so wet and now I take out just two small patches which fit on a shovel every day! I put 7 bags into start with and only just put my first one in today, ten days after I put the bed down! It is sooo easy to muck out and despite my worries he didn't even think about eating it! Let me know if you need to know more!
