Thank you BadgerBill, you see I am very attached to Castle, and you are right Cazee34, where is the best place for him to go? Far away so that I dont burst into tears everytime I see him, or close enough that I can see him hunting and competing around?

Aw I'm sure you will make the right decision when you have to. Do you not have any friends who would be interested in him? That way you could see him as often as you like and you may not feel as bad about it than him going to a stranger. It all depends on you and what you can cope with emotionally and also if he went to someone you know how they would feel about you seeing him regularly would they be ok with it or would they think you had not sold him on in the first place.
Personally and I know it would seem hard it may be easier to let him go further afield but keep in touch with new owners via email or telephone, post etc. That way you would be able to keep in touch and see how he settles in and it may be a bit more settling for you emotionally to see pictures of him than to see him in the flesh and you saying hello to him and then having to leave.
At the end of the day only you can make that choice and I suggest you ask your dad to give you as much time as you need to decide on which you prefer than being rushed into making a decision.

Fantastic news about new horse

but i really really feel for you on the Castle situation. I don't know what I'd do if i had to sell either Bramble or Teazle. But loaning is a very risky business and TBTH selling will be the best thing. So chin up and think of the good times and the good times you have to come with the new one.

The horse sounds really nice and a great prospect , he has to be something special to fill Castles shoes. Really sorry to hear about Castle, I can only imagine how you must feel, I know I would've been devastated to sell my first pony, thankfully I was able to keep him for my little sister. All you can do is find him a really good home and don't let him to go to anybody you're not 100% sure of. You could also arrange to have first option to to buy him back or he could come back to you for his retirement. If you sell him locally, to someone in your hunt or PC than at least you'll know where he is and can keep in touch. I know you might'nt think it but at least if you get a new horse now it might make the transition a little easier.

Im so sorry about you having to sell Castle, Im sure you will find him the very best home though! And from what Ive seen in pics he is a pony with plenty of life in him who would be much happier having an active life than perhaps just being a field pony, and if you are getting a new horse, who sounds smashing by the way, then it sounds like the best thing for both of you.

Im saying all this but I would be devestated too, and its hard to see the practical side when you love them so much.

It may seem hard but it is the right choice, which you will realise once you have your new horse
