Thinking of putting a horse walker on my yard - anyone have any recommendations or words of wisdom concerning them? It is not an area I have any experience of. Also (and this may be a stupid question) but do they have to be on level ground? The easiest place to put one is on a bit of a slope.

Yes, they have to be level.
And you're best to get one that goes both directions....roofs are good too...if your budget allows.

Theres pics of our walker on there, we had it installed about 1 month ago.
They sre arent cheap- we got a 5 bay Monarch covered walker and it is fabulous. Ground has to be level, we then had area dug out and a layer of hard core put down. Then a circle of concrete for the walker to stand on and our walker has rubber bricks where the horses walk although some people leave it as concrete or put a surface in.

yes, they have to be on level ground, for the motor etc to run smoothly. you could always have the ground levelled first though, that'll probably be the cheapest bit!
mine didn't have a cover, but it would have been nice i guess. i had one two yards ago. i miss it a bit, but not enough to put another in at the moment.
if i was going to put in another one i'd use the people who make the seawalkers, i think. their design, gates, fencing etc look very very good, with or without the water part.
make sure the gates can be lightly electrified, cos you'll always get a few horses (geldings, in my experience!) who work out that they can sit on the gate and stop the walker! very annoying.
