I have the use of a hw for a few weeks and wondered how often it should be used for a five year old. Also how quickly do they get used to it and is it best to put on with another horse to start with as never used one before. Thanks in advance for any replies.

They normally adapt to it very well, I thought my horse would freak out big time, but he just walked round like he'd been on one all his life!
I put him on with another horse to start with but he was absolutely fine. He was a 4 yr old at the time.
Probably 15 mins at a time and I always used to change direction every day, or if he is going on it twice a day then go both ways!!!!

Where I used to work we would put them on for up to 30 mins twice a day max.

What size is the walker?

This for me would be a big influence on ifI even put a horse on it.

When I bought my walker I looked at the research and found that it is recommended to have nothing smaller than 45' in diameter otherwise you are putting too much strain on the inside limbs.

So if your walker is a small one I would not be putting any horse, especially a young horse, on for any length of time at all.
