Horse ware liner loops?

Have just bought a new Rambo turnout which has metal rectangular loops on either side of the withers on the INSIDE!? I am guessing that they are the liner loops which are now on all their rugs but it seems like it would be quite uncomfortable for the horse. Has anyone had problems with the loops rubbing or causing problems? Have you modified them at all?

I have the Duo which has the liner system and a fine-skinned mare. The metal loops have never rubbed her but I do usually have one of the liners attached as she feels the cold.

No problems for me either

(Although if they were causing a problem I would remove the as I never use them anyway, when I put a liner on I just use the clips at the rear of the rug, never had a problem with them slipping!).
