Horse wee's sooooo much

I have an 18yr old tb, that wee's a lot in the stable. He's currently in during the day and out at night. In the last hour he's weed twice. He seems to be wetter when he's in for 8 hrs during the day than when he's stabled for 17 hrs at night.
Please can anyone give any suggestions?
 
He may be weeing in the stable because he does not like weeing on the hard ground and splashing himself. Might sound daft but honestly it is true!
 
I had considered cushings but after reading up on it I really don't think that's what it is. Is a urine infection possible?

I'd also suspect cushings, if his staling a lot he must be drinking a lot which is the first sign I had with my horse that something might be wrong. You can get a free lab test at the moment, so it might be worth checking.
 
I've always stabled my horses during the day in the summer months for various reasons, ie flies, sheltered from the heat, save on grass etc.
I wouldn't say he's too hot being in as he never sweats and doesn't drink much when he's in.
He has no other symptoms of cushings.
 
Maybe he doesn't have any other Cushings symptoms, but I know people who took the free test because it was, er, free, and were surprised to find their horses had elevated ACTH levels. Or it could be Insulin Resistance - goes hand in hand with Cushings but can be controlled with a low sugar/cereal diet. You could test his urine with some dip strips from the chemist to see whether he has raised levels of glucose in his urine - and then if he does, speak to your vet because IR and Cushings often go together.
 
One of ours is peeing far more at the moment, I think as the grass is so moist and juicy!! He is only 7 and has no other symptoms and no increased thirst or sweating so I am not worried. He also does not like to wee in public (no joke, he really doesn't). When he comes in for his tea he pees as soon as his hooves hit the shavings! If he was 18 I probably would keep a closer eye on it and consider testing for cushings anyhow. I have a completely competition fit and healthy 15yr old warmblood and he will be tested this year when the vets start their free testing month. Never a bad thing to screen for it if you have not already!
 
Mine are peeing more and poos are wetter due to grass but I would recommend the free test. The splashing legs thing is the issue with my mare she won't wee in the stable which worries me and partly influenced my decision to turnout 24/7. I 've just had all mine done tested and was relieved that they were all normal ranges.
 
Might be worth just checking for cushings - my lad had no signs of cushings at all, we just tested as a precautionary after he got mudfever. Turned out he had levels over 145, which was a shocker

However my hairy lad, who has just turned 4, wees loads atm :)
 
Is his bed down when he is in as mine will pull his bed down to pee as doesn't like splasback but who can blame him !
I had him tested for cushings this year on the free test as was just slightly hairier than normal and has come back borderline , even though it was free you still have to pay for vet visit tbh you pro only save about £30 -£40 to test the blood , orthwile considering it , it's less common in horses than ponies so could be a urine infection , phone your vet for a chat .
