My big lad approx 634kgs - 17hh - warmblood - is now on a diet, I was reluctant to cut down on his hay and leave him unrugged whilst we had the very cold weather but now were upto the dizzy heights of 2 degrees he is now unrugged - not clipped and stabled in an internal barn at night.

He is out for 6 hours a day on reasonable grass, I am feeding him 2kg of hay at 2pm - small holed hay net when he comes in and then 2kg at 7pm - small holed haynet and a further 4kg at 9.30 pm in a double hay net, he is on 1.5kg of good doer split over 3 feeds and .5kg of calm and condition - split over two feeds -(he absolutly loves this so i am reluctant to take it all off him). I am still quite ill so he is not being worked at the moment, although i plan to start walk work with him at the weekend.

He has lost a good inch off his girth over the last week, and his "grass belly" is coming down nicely - what do you guys think? is this too much weight loss to soon or am i on the right track?
