Horse weight?

Just out of curiosity -what was his weight before losing the 20kg? I'm sure I need to diet my 14.3 cob mare who (apart from colour) looks in similar shape to your boy in the first photos.

He's lovely. He's almost identical colouring to my bay highland (minus the white). He's also been on a bit of a diet. Its hard when they live on fresh air.

He was 564kg pre-diet, has lost 20kg so far, still has a little way to go but i'm happy with the progress so far, if he stays at the weight he is at now (544kg) over winter I would be pleased! I'm changing on to Spillers Lite Balancer to help cut down on calories, he is only out at night as well.

He still gets "ad lib" hay, but I have started to double net it to make him eat slower!
Oh and I've changed his bedding to Aubiose instead of straw as he doesn't eat it!

He only has to look at a big field of grass to balloon in size! Having spoken to a Spillers rep though she was really informational- really recommend talking to or ringing a feed company for advice if you need it!

Brown! :p

ETA a bit more info.

There are three versions of agouti. Not all DNA testing labs test for the different versions. Luckily it's easy to tell them apart visually.

A = bay
At = seal brown (often mistakenly called dark bay)
A+ = wild bay

So testing positive for agouti doesn't automatically mean that your horse is plain old 'bay'. Looking at the horse in the OP, I have no doubt that he has the At version and is therefore seal brown.

Oh so something else I could test for! I may have to wait until my ship comes in before I send off any more of his tail hair! When I do though I will update on here- thanks for all the info!
