hi all,are there any other treatments for horses with copd,my mum has a lovely conny who we have had the pleasure of owning for16 yrs (he is now 20)he has suffered from this for about 10 yrs now without having to medicate, shavings haylage long turnout,24/7 from april to oct,we have now hit a prob he is having to have ventapulmin (sorry about spelling)for the last couple of wks (2 scoops aday)and he still has flared nostrals (hes not being ridden while he is like this)we have a lot of rapeseed round us is this likely to be affecting him this yr?im going to get him a nose net and see if that helps, although he is next to my younger horse who undresses him,and he is not happy being seperated from him!so i wondered if anyone can give me some suggestions, will be phoning the vet again also.thanks in advance :)

I have a pony with copd and severe allergies.... To everything. When she's bad, we have to use a brown steroid inhaler on her, this was recommended be my vet and it works buy reducing the inflammation in her lungs, I also use a blue ventalin inhaler on her as this opens her airways making it easier for her to breath. We give Her these via a baby spacer for inhalers and she tolerates it well. U could speak to your vet about this as this is beginning a common way to treat copd sufferers. My pony is also on piriton tablets... To try to stop the allergic reactions before they happen and she's doing fine at the minute. I hope you find a solution for your horse x
