Horse with hives for 2 months, all help appreciated

Hi all, long due update. We done a bunch of elimination tests and nothing changed. until we sent his blood in for allergy testing (found a clinic in turkey). and he came back surprisingly with only 5 allergens! One being severe, 4 being mild to very mild. Severe allergy to alternaria alternata (mould) and the rest were ustilago (fungus) and housefly and blackfly as well as a super mild allergy to barley.

Towards the start of March we started feeding him normally (balanced diet, supplements etc) and I fed him 5 prednisolone tablets daily. Towards the middle of March he was weaned off the prednisolone. Now he is fine *touch wood*

I clean under his mats weekly, full stable clean weekly.

He has a LOT of gut support supplements. (Chia seeds, probiotics, brewers yeast, turmeric, aloe vera juice, omeprazole as he does have grade 1 ulcers, and marshmallow root, liquorice root tea in the morning and fennel seed tea in the afternoon).

Once the cold windy days end, he will be stabled with his window opened.

So, to anyone else having the same problems. I highly suggest allergy testing through Laboklin labs in Germany. My horses case was very severe but we managed to only get away with 5 allergens (hoping to buy allergy shots from them too)

Hi, I’m so glad.

He is still on box rest due to his ligament injury (nothing serious but would rather let him heal longer). He seems happier, although he uses his energy in the wrong aspects
