I have found out after many years of investigation, that my horse has one leg shorter than the other, and that is why she has been going lame all these years she is 6, has anyone heard of this and is there any one out there with the same prob and what did thay do thanks julie

yes, i have heard of it, sounds as if you need a really really ace farrier, but tbh i would not expect a horse with one leg longer than the other to be anything other than a light hack.

I recently went to a lecture / demo done my by farrier where one of the horses shown suffered from the same condition, combined with a tilted pelvis, and had a history of lameness.

When he took the horse on the owner was willing to try anything to improve the horses quality of life and he's been shoeing it for the last two years with a graduated wedge pad on it's off fore and another on near hind. It looks rather odd but it's worked - the horse is now sound and doing well at BE novice level. She also has regular chiropractic treatment to keep her alignment the best it can be. Don't give up hope - if you can find an excellent farrier with a thorough knowledge of biomechanics they may be able to help you.

When people have this, they have the shoe on the shorter side raised, so perhaps a good farrier could do this for your horse?

Its great that you know what the problem is and it is not something worse.

Contact Eileen Gillen at Belwade Farm (ILPH) in Scotland, she had a horse in years ago with this condition (think he was called Binbag or something- could have been ex police horse) anyway she will be delighted to advise you I'm sure... look on www.ilph.org to find centres phone number..
