My trad cob mare has always had a rather delicate digestive system: she has had sand colitis previously but is fine on a preventative 1 week in 4 psyllium regime. Since the drought ended and the grass has been growing fast she has had bouts of faecal water syndrome and now has very loose watery droppings much of the time. Cleaning her up is such fun! She's well and perky in herself, so I'm not too worried. I think it must be the very mild and damp weather which is making the grass flush. She wears a grazing muzzle and is in a small paddock overnight so her grass intake is severely restricted. She comes into her stable and has a haynet plus appropriate hard feed for her workload during the day. She's quite fit, not too fat and in light/medium work. Anyone else had the same problem?

My mares is linked to how much hay she consumes. I tried for years and found that Acid Ease or Colligone both help enormously. She’s fine currently as there’s loads of grass so not eating much hay.

My cob suffers from faecal water syndrome every winter. Reducing soaked feed such as Fast Fibre or sugar beet helped, and switching to a small amount of Pink Mash dried off with a handful of bran almost cleared the problem last winter. I have come across an American article which suggests that dental issues may be to blame, in particular the inability to completely chew and break down the forage means that it is propelled through the gut faster without being digested properly. Cob has just had a full dental from a new technician, so we will see how things progress.
