Horses For Loan - Viewing
Date(s): 05/09/2009
Venue: Equine Welfare Yard
Entry Fee: £0

HorseWorld has 100 wonderful horses and ponies looking for love and a long term home. If you have room in your heart, and in your stable, they are ready and waiting for you to visit!

On Saturday 5th September HorseWorld is inviting experienced horse owners and carers to attend an Open Viewing to learn more about the charity's Re-homing Scheme and to meet some of the horses who are desperate for a loving home and a second chance at life.

The horses available range from top quality riding animals with the potential to take part in Pony Club and light competition, to safe and gentle hacks, to kindly companions and quirky characters!

Booking is essential so please contact Pip Eyles for further details and to reserve your place on the day.

And people wonder why people go elsewhere to adopt.
Alot of the horse rescue places in this country offer companions, although so do have riding horses and £1000 is a lot to stump up for a companion

Suggested Loan Donation: £1,000
ouch

The 'suggested donation' changes depending on the horse though, so non ridden companions are only £60.
Unless I've misread it?

Nope, I'm with you, companions are £60. Also it looks like the donation for ridden horses is relative to their potential, the light hacks are £500. Either way, I don't think that £1000 is that much for a decent riding horse

No connection with Horseworld btw, although my mare is from HAPPA

Better, though, than the £2-3k asked by some 'welfare' organisations.....

£1000 does seem a lot to me for a horse that you will not actually own. When you can get great horses on free loans from private owners? I just think it must put a lot of people off that would otherwise be able to offer these horses good homes.

How would you suggest that this organisation recoups it's costs then, if not by setting an adoption fee???

Yes, and also the horse is yours as long as you want it. I loaned a horse from a private owner before I got my HAPPA horse, and never really relaxed with him in case the owner wanted him back. In the end, she did take him back, after I had spent 2 years schooling the horse and bringing it on. Yes, I enjoyed it, but she then sold him and made a nice profit.

At least with a rescue horse, provided you meet the requirements to pass the inspections (not hard - feet, jabs and worming up to date, horse looks well etc) then it's a horse for life. Plus, if your circumstances change (severe illness/financial difficulties and the like) you can return the horse in the knowledge that it will be well cared for by someone else. A good deal in my book, and helping out a needy organisation.

ETA: a further point - what level would you set the adoption fee at? If you set it too low, you risk attracting people who can't really afford to keep the animal, or aren't realistic about how much it costs.

Precisely.

Please note there are geopgraphical restrictions placed on loan homes. Anywhere over 1.5 hours drive from Horseworld is ruled out as they are very hot on keeping track of their loaned out horses.

They also have their annual show on the 12th September if anyone would like to attend and support them that way. Keep an eye on their website as they also hold tack sales and other fundraising events thoughout the year.
