I know there are a few archers on here and hoping you might help a wife buy her hubby’s Christmas present…
He’s a regular archer who shoots barebow and also has a recurve bow. We have 2 horses and I’m always up for teaching them to deal with “weird” and encouraging my hubby to join in with them. So a horsebow looks like the perfect solution! But what do I need to look for in a bow? And where can I buy it from?
I'm also thinking about getting him a “have a go” session somewhere before he turns my Clydesdales into the living embodiment of the film Brave! If anyone knows where I’d appreciate that knowledge too!
 
I heard the horse archery arrow release technique is a bit different from regular archery, so it's worth a regular archer having a have-a-go morning, to see whether it suits them and they can adjust.

This website will help find someone local who can help. Their coaches will help with training (our local one will come to your yard for a very reasonable charge and is insured), and local clubs welcome people coming along to try. Clubs have kit you can try, which will help any buying decision.

With careful intro, most horses take to it. But there are some who never enjoy it.
 
Smaller bow, I think mine is a 53”, or maybe 51”.
You need less lbs for draw than a regular bow since you’ll be on horseback. My ground draw is 25 to 30, and I’m a 15 to 20 on horseback.

as for buying not sure I can help. Im looking at a new one from my local club. They do have some on Amazon but the best I could find was a 30 draw and it’s way too much for me. If your husband has a strong draw then maybe worth a look, but there are some cool designs out there, including a collapsible horse bow so it doesn’t take up much space.

Checkendon Equestrian Centre near Reading do lessons, with a specialist set up (you ride down an all-weather channel with the targets to the side) and a very highly trained coach. It's a lovely place, so even if it's far away from you it'd be a nice place to visit!
