My dad has just got home from a week in France. These are the photos of horseball that he took whilst he was out there. He is about the least horsey person I know and he said it was just fascinating to watch and apparently this was some kind of tournament. He only got clear photos of the women playing because he was too busy engrossed in the game after a while!

Anyhow... enjoy! There are a few more if you are interested.

Oh yes they do it here too! Seen a few games at county/country shoes. Very impressive when they drop the ball and just hang off the side of the horse andpick it up again!

Lovely photos.
Brings back memorys.
We used to play horseball at my riding school for fun. I got band though as i used to undo everyones bridle so the bits fell out the horses mouth. :p Apparently thats cheating :)
But i asked what the ruels where at the start of the game and undoing other players tack was never mentioned ;) :D :D

:P cheeky monkey! I'm pretty sure things like that are unwritten rules though

My dad said it was a good thing these women weren't armed because they would have shot one another in the face it was that competitive. Apparently trying to shove people off their horses is ok, as is elbowing them in the face, or anywhere else for that matter! So maybe that is one people could get round with the excuse "well they never said I couldn't carry a gun in the rulebook!!"

One of the girls on my yard does horseball, it's not that popular or accessible over here and pretty dangerous. Fab photos looks like it would have been really interesting to watch.

Noooo! Polocrosse is much more fun (and violent) try that instead! In fact, *lowers voice* they cheat in horseball as they tie their feet together under the saddle....

i love horseball, its strange hanging underneath your horse to get the ball and not fall off coz of the strap underneath but its fun!! my friends uncle coaches the teams around england. the are different county teams i think. im going to have a go at polocross aswell which im looking forward to.
farrier lover. have you got a brother thats training to be a farrier??

Wow that looks like sooo much fun, something I have always wanted to try. However am I right in thinking the horse in the last photo has got two sets of over reach boots on each leg (one facing normally, one upside down), definitely one way of protecting the horse legs :D.

Good on you- it does make you a better rider for sure. No I don't (wouldn't that be a bit weird, given the name? :p) Why? :D

my farriers apprentice does polocross with his sister and thought your pic and name might link haha!!

Zoom was a horseball pony after she lost her eye and wasn't allowed to do polo anymore. I went to watch once  It is scary as hell!!! I did have a go but it is much harder than it looks!

Zoom probably wasn't the best horse to try with since she had played to a high level and I found it hard to balance standing up with no reins since she kept buggering off with me! :D

There are quite a few teams round the UK and the tournaments look like alot of fun. For those in London, there is one at Lea Valley in East London and Zoom used to play for this one:

If anyone want to have a go, you can use Zoomy :D She is awesome! Very fast and super-brave!

Thanks for all the replies, I am very envious I couldn't watch.

MontyandZoom I never knew Zoom used to play horseball! Must be great having a horse with such an interesting past :D
