Hi there
I am hoping to purchase VW35lt D reg with low mileage. 3.5 ton. Beautifully kept inside & out...but its a petrol engine and has no PAS...am I crazy to consider this box or are they quite economical on fuel? How heavy are they to drive (honestly) say on a scale of 1-10?
Thanks in advance for your help & advice.

My 3.5 G reg lorry doesn't have PAS and I find it fine most of the time, do find it quite hard work at low speeds manuvering in small spaces but not unmanageable. Can't comment on fuel efficiency as mine is diesel although I did used to borrow an old petrol wagon and that was terrible for guzzling fuel, but I think that was because the engine wasn't big enough for the weight being carried

From what I have read on previous threads on here the VW's have a heavy chassis compared to the Master/Movano type, you certainly have less payload available. Whether this affects how they drive I'm afraid I have no idea.

As a driver of a Movano conversion it's like driving a big car, really easy!

Hi thanks for the replies...I am planning to carry one 15hh cob on the lorry...plus tack etc. We mainly be doing local shows. But do have some bigger shows coming up...hence my concerns. Does anyone know what the actual/approx mpg is on a vwlt35 2.4 petrol engine.

my VW LT35 is diesel so can't help on the fuel consumption front, I get about 28 MPG which is more than my shogun pulling the trailer!
the lack of power steering only really becomes an issue if you want to park it in a small space which may take a few goes ;) but isn't really a problem lol
I'm only 5'4" and manage ours easily

Like others have said VW's have a very heavy chassis, mine's an E reg coach built box, totally fab in every way BUT it has a very small pay load, just enough to carry my one horse plus our gear. But as I only have one horse this is fine for me :)

I think I've seen the box you're talking about and it looks great, however they are asking quite a bit of dosh for it. If you are serious about buying it ask them to weigh it and give you an idea of MPG. If they've been using it they should have a rough idea :)

My LT35 is petrol and has no PAS. The steering is fine and causes no issues.

Being a petrol it is going to cost more to run than a diesel. Mine is quite juicy and mechanic is looking at why at the moment.

Don't know about mpg, but I allow for £20 petrol to go 35 miles.
