Anyone used an Equi-buddy or Equi Travel Safe? Designed to stop horses jumping onto tack-lockers in horseboxes. How long have you used for and do they work safely? thanks

I did see one recently where a plastic connector had sheared off, it didn't look fit for purpose and was quite concerning but I can't remember what make it was. Worth a Facebook search as it would have been on there, I'd look but i am off Facebook currently.

Yes we purchased a equi travel safe 2 months ago after new pony attempted to jump breast bar which was so frightening for all concerned - just take a look at the news article on horse & hound this week about the fire brigade rescue to see what could end up happening! At first I was quite sceptical about it working & I still cross tie, & I had another breast bar made on top to make it higher, I practiced a lot at home just standing with her, then shutting the ramp, then driving around the field, we then started travelling again with companion pony to give her confidence a few times & now she is going solo. Initially she did try to fight & jump up but now she has relaxed & realised she cannot do it anymore she doesn't resist - I also have a camera in the lorry so I can see at all times what she is up to which is now mostly eating hay! Cannot recommend it enough, expensive but has given us the confidence back which was absolutely shattered, so worth every penny & damn sight cheaper than having your roof cut out your lorry & even worse damaging your precious cargo!!

I assume this is in the 3.5 tons where the tack lockers are at the back where this danger of recent accidents and not lorries like mine where the lockers protrude into horse area

This is new pony in backward facing 3.9 lorry. Has collapsable breast bar and high tack lockers on either side. Pony previously travelled in a different 3.5 without problems. Have now set breast bar as high as possible but wondering if pony feels claustrophobic have also removed head guard. Lorry is light and airy and well built, maybe a tad too short for him between breast bar and solid wall into rear. What length do other people have?

If its a new pony as ours was it could be unsettled by the move & therefore not wanting to be moved again therefore trying to evade travelling?

We have used one for the past 7 years & wouldnt travel in a lorry without it now - eagerly awaiting the trailer version which is just being released hopefully! Such a clever invention to a far too common problem - you wont regret buying one Im sure.

One well respected lorry builder around the North West said you shouldn't travel any horse in a 3.5 tonne with breast bar without one

I was worried with youngsters that faffying about getting them in it and out of it would be stressful - hence went for stallion layout and no bar to get stuck on!

They would have to be close fitting and multiple straps to make it strong and secure enough - it could also make them feel more trapped if they were strapped down??

I love mine.

I won't travel either of my youngsters without one.

We've had our about 4 years.

You do have to fiddle around to get the height right on the 'seatbelt' part that attaches to the lorry. My little one paws if he gets impatient and has got himself tangled a few times. We put it higher up now and he misses it when pawing.

I'm interested to see how the trailer one works out.
