We have an unfitted living and been using garden bench storage up to now. OH is thinking about installing bench seats (with storage underneath) that also could convert to a double bed.

Could anyone who has this in their living give any advice/any or photos or anywhere that has info/design that we can look at?

Many thanks - I know this is not CR but thought more folks on here use their boxes for overnight stays

I've done this in my last two horseboxes. I make the benches from good quality half inch ply screwed together to make an oblong. Then fix a piece across the back, attach hinges, then fasten another piece to the hinges. If you get your measurements right, and make cushion seats and backs, you can use those for the bed. I have a detachable table as the middle piece of the bed. My living however, is very small, about 6ft by 7ft 6in. Will get some photos to show you. The bench seats are very useful for storing a spare battery for lights etc, and one has a porta potti in it.

That would be brilliant if you could. Sounds like your living is about the same size as ours! Thank you very much

We had ours made from MDF with wooden frame and supports. Ours are 2 single beds. We had made one made like a trunk with a hinged lid split in two for easy access. The other one does not have a front on it so we can slide things underneath. We have some plastic storage boxes we use for this.
The cushions are made of upholstery foam a few inches thick with fabric cover. Mum made the washable covers to fit complete with zips but if you don't know a domestic goddess velcro would do.

I have just had mine done, the seating had to be altered, I have a load of pics and know of a good upholsterer, although may not be in your area. My seating had to be lowered, and I have an extra piece of board under the long part (mine is l shaped) which slots across the small bit and to the luton part to make a bigger bed. Pm me if you would like pics. ;)
