I noticed to my horror today that the side of the horse area in our lorry has bowed beneath one window. I prodded it from inside and out and have a nasty suspicion that water has got in along the bottom of the window and rotted it (I think it is wood in the middle coated with something both inside and out).

So it is declared unsafe (in my opinion) and off the road until I can get it repaired.

Has anyone had the side of a lorry replaced? Can they cut out the rotten bits and stick on a new bit?
Has anyone got any idea what this would cost?

Thanks

The material your horse box is made of sounds like GRP its like a coated chip board and when gets wet swells and rots, its not really that easy to just cut a peice out and put another bit in and fill it and respray. I see you are from Suffolk, how far are you from Newmarket? You could try Gazeley Horseboxes they are good at repairs and will tell you the best route to take as to repairing it, the number is 07638 664667 or 01638 660555. David worked at Oakley horse boxes for years so knows his stuff.

They can only remove a section if they are aluminium coach built and put together on a frame and then 8x4 ally sheets to the outside, therefore they can just remove one section, the GRP boxes are made of one full sheet of GRP the whole length of the box. Sounds like OP box is made of GRP as she described it.

I think it is GRP, so I guess the whole side of the lorry will need replacing. Has anyone had this done? If so, can anyone give me an idea of cost? I have to decide if the lorry will go to the big garage in the sky.......
I am taking it to Wrights next week to see what they say and for them to assess the condition of the rest of the container.
