Who are you insured with? Shearwater do one which is about £10 dearer than Anthony Evans, but do Homestart as well - don't think the AE one does - might be wrong.

It's insured with NFU, not sure of they do breakdown. WE're going to contact Anthony Evans to see if they can sort us today

effing lorry

Use Antony Evans and it has always been good but not really checked about what happens to horses .It is due for renewal and my insurance [KBIS] has also sent me details of breakdown ,so going to check both out and will look at shearwater

Mine is with KBIS and so far so good! They do homestart too which is so worth it when you want to go somewhere, are all on your own, and it won't start!! Not like you can tow them to the garage easily!

Only states homestart on car /trailer not sure about horseboxes

My sister just renewed theirs and stuck with Shearwater as it did do homestart and AE didn't - but they do get things wrong. Also Shearwater insurance was cheaper than AE

A word of warning RE antothny evans break down cover.

I have used it twice this year.

1st ossasion- no horse on board and exhaust pipe came off the lorry ( they dont fix at road side- just pulled it up in a huge lorry and took it back to yard ).

2nd occasion- i was horrified and am awaiting a repsonce to my complaint.

I was on the way to the vet with my horse on board ( injured fetlock joint ) when it got hot and broke down. I was on a major road and managed to chug to the petrol staion. I called them and made then fullt aware i had an injured horse on board and would need a horsebox to get her home safely in.

They said they will recover the lorry with the horse on board as this is best for the horse. I said to them i was not happy with this as they would have to lift one end up to tow it and could cause the horse further injury but they promised me all would be fine.

It was far from fine

The breakdown truck turned up and said he would have to winch it up onto the back of his truck and assumed it was empty. I explained the story and the recovery man said theres no way he can recover it without winching it up empty. I had to call a freind with a lorry who was at work and had to wait while she left work went to get her lorry before they could recover.

I checked the policy when i got home and it and it does state that if they cannot recover the lorry with the horse on board they will organsie alternative transport.

I was VERY upset as it was stressful enough breaking down esp with the horse injured. And even more upsetting was i paid for this service and was clear about the situation and nothing was done even tho their policy states they will provide alt transport.

I wont be renewing my breakdown cover with them for sure.

Im lucky i had a good frined to help me out but someone else may not have been so lucky

Had AE out loads of times to old lorry and were always really really helpful. I was made aware when i took the policy that if they couldnt fix the vehicle they would tow it still with my horse on board, in honesty prefered that than the thought of having to unload and try to reload on busy roads or motor ways.
Also used homestart with them in fact had them out twice to change tyres when i needed new ones fitting.
Now i have car and trailer transfered cover over for that as been really happy with service.
