the seller refused very bluntly (when asked politely) to give you the mot certificate number ,so you could look up past mot work + advisories , or i am i being rude for asking them for it??

other people have been happy to tell me,

thanks for your opinions

No reason why he woudent show you the old mot unless they are lost or he is trying to hide something , am sure a genuine seller would be happy to show you the paper work, I would look elsewhere esp if seller is a dealer....

I always think that an MOT certificate is a good way of proving that you had work done on a lorry. IE if it failed on something last year and had an MOT you know they must have fixed it.

Maybe it is the mileage?

Didnt even realise you could do this, thanks. Worth knowing.
Sorry, just one question, where and how do you find information?

it is mot'd and she said she had the old certificates to pass on to the new owner, but she wont give me the number so i can look up all the mots and the advisories (i.e. this part is on its last legs but has only just passed),

she said i can come and look, but i just cant believe someone would be so rude.

louby - if you have the registration and the mot certificate number you can look on a website (vosa maybe? i cant remember) and it will list everything done on the mot and anything the garage advised to be done soon. the milage at each test etc.

Thanks for that, really useful.
On the mileage issue, I sold my wagon last week and a mechanic checked it over, when we filled in the change of ownership, new owner asked mechanic about the mileage part on the V5?? and he said it doesnt matter as it isnt on the MOT sheets anyway. I had about 6 yrs tests and it wasnt on any. Maybe its something to do with vehicles with Tacho's??? as apparantly the mileage on these vehicles isnt always correct.

My wagon was a 7.5t. Im sure its right, although daft cos how are you supposed to know what the mileage is.
Some adverts say guaranteed mileage and some say current recorded mileage, think its sommat to do with changing the tacho head, dont have a clue though :confused: Anyway I take it your looking at a 3.5t and Im waffling about something else so I will shut up lol.
I would keep looking and avoid the one youve seen, surely if she had nothing to hide she would be more than happy to supply the info.
Good luck
