I'm looking to upgrade my 6.5t to a 7.5t on a newer chassis and contemplating buying a box lorry to get converted.
Has anyone had this done recently and what did you pay?
Plan is to get horse area done and leave living to do myself as H is in the trades! Just want something safe and spacious for the horses really.
I know not all boxes are suitable etc. Just trying to suss out if it'll be within budget!
Thanks in advance

We did ours about 15 years ago. Getting the box converted into a horse box, so ramp, living doors, windows, partition between living and horse area, tack lock, matting, lights was I think about £5,000 but can't really remember to be honest. It was a good job well done. We upgraded a few bits over the years though such as the lighting. It is then really how much do you want to spend. We did the work on the living ourselves, as like you have all the trades covered. Bought a second hand oven and hob for £30 from a caravan scrap yard but spent probably around £600 on new shower and loo. Were looking for a whole scrapped caravan to take stuff out of but couldn't find one at the time. It does mount up even in rivets and cabling but at least you know how well it has been done and can be concious about keeping the weight down and having a good payload over box axles, unlike some company made lorries that you could barely carry one horse in legally. Have a look at some of the caravan part manufacturers to get an idea re costs of things - depending on what you do there are things like a water heater, water tank to fit under the lorry, heating, etc.
