if you have a horsebox where the lights run off the van battery, how easy is it to get them/change them so they run seperatly off a leisure battery???

How much would this cost???

Sorry but lorry electrics just baffle me!!!!

Getting then to run off a seperate battery is not difficult. Its just a matter to taking the pos(+) and neg(-) that feed the living off the main battery and connecting then on to the leisure battery. However, you will need to charge the living battery somehow. Options are use a mains charger (simple and cheap but a pain) or install a split charge system which will charge the leisure battery from the lorry alternator. Parts for split system can be purchased for around £30.
A leisure battery should set you back around £49 if you by it from a caravan type place. Dont be tempted to use an old car battery, it wont work for long.

TimeFaulter has it in a nutshell.

If you wish to do some work with any 12v electrics, there is a large range of reference material availible on the internet, and from your local library.

I am a member of this organisation:

Self Build Motor Caravan Club It has a very useful forum with lots of tips about this.

Also, the following books are probably availible from your local library and worth borrowing:

And this one is actually very useful as it essential covers the same issues:
