Hi everyone,

I wonder if you can help, I'm in the process of replacing the flooring of my horsebox, the floor that was down was with tongue and groove boards which I will be replacing with new ones. I have just been told today that since last year it is now illegal to replace your flooring with wood? Can anyone tell me if this true?

TOTAL TOSH.

You will save weight by going over to ali planking, but a properly specced wooden floor will be fine.

Who told you that, what sort of lorry do you have and where are you?

PM me if you prefer.

I thought it was a load of rubbish when i heard it! I couldn't even find anything on google but I wanted to make sure. Someone who works as a yard manager at a local treking centre told me.

Ive bought myself a project box, its an old double rice trailer thats rear unload only. Ive managed to salvage some of the planks that were in already but I basically need a whole new floor.

Thanks for your reply :-)

be carefull wot ever you use seen so many bad floors in my time .

Whereabouts in Scotland are you? I've just bought keruing half lap boards for my old rice trailer, Rembrand Timber had it in stock which was very useful - most other places had to order it in but the haulage for the amount I wanted was awful! I'm SW Scotland.
Half lap is apparently better than tongue and groove because it can drain more easily so the water doesn't get stuck inside.

That's nonsense. We have a Rice Europa and floor has just been replaced with phenolic board (buffalo board) as the previous marine ply failed. We had it done by a professional horsebox person

Have settled it with a friend who works in the traffic police and its not illegal and i can put wood back in my box! :-) Thanks guys for all your comments
