After reading H & H this week about horsebox floors, does anyone know about aluminium planks, I don't know about them but always worry about the floor.
How is it done , price etc.

what sort of floor do you have now? we use sheet aluminium never used planks

We only have wood and rubber on top .We do check it very well but I still worry and then I see this bit in H & H about alumin. planks and wonder what they are.Do you have the sheets above the wood and then rubber and do you know the cost?

We have always had aluminium after witnessing a nasty accident where the wood rotted and horse got leg through floor

Most of the big horsebox manufacturers seem to be using aluminium planks with rubber mats. The strength comes from how they slot together

The old lorry had a wood floor and we had aluminium put ontop of this then rubber... dont know about the new lorry sorry!

Hiya,
Mine had aluminium planks with rubber on top. If you looked underneath you could see the aluminium strips, no wood or anything else. My old lorry had a marine ply floor layed over wooden boards (obv. rubber on top)

hi our equitrek has aluminium plank floor, dont know much about is sorry. our old ifor had a marine ply floor that my dad put in.

For flooring always get a professional horsebox company to do this sort of work, try somewhere like www.horseboxworld.com DONT do it yourself unless your very competant!

When I was replacing the floor in horsebox (3 years ago) I looked in to ali flooring. The planks are a basic I beam section to provide the strength. To do the horse area the cost of the planks (fitting myself) was approx £700.
They must be fitted correctly as corrosion will occur if fitted directly to steel cross members. Some sort of barrier has to be fitted in between.
In the end I opted for wood.

I'v just bought a lovely horsebox that has aluminium planks, with rubber mats on top. I took my mechanic with me and he said it's the best type of flooring you can have in a horse box or trailer. Do you want a pic?? i can take a photo if you want to see how they slot into place

Well you know where I got mine built, I went for planks as had a horse killed in an ifor due to floor going and I won't travel mine on wood.
Mine is a GRP box, so we made sure the cross members where less than 1ft apart and the planks sit on top of these with a liner to stop the chemical reaction between steal and Ali.
The only wooden part is in my living (so didn't do entire box length). I think this was around a £700 upgrade as Ali is more expensive than wood. Also due to the nature of planks they are not lighter than wood, so didn't help with the weight!
I originally then had 10mm rubber mats on top, but Dinky destroyed this in 8 journeys, so then had to cough out for better 17mm rubber in a continuous roll (which is much better in general, but heavier)
