Filled my lorry (T reg Iveco Turbo 5.6ton 2 horse) up with diesel a week or so ago.

Lost a little bit on the drive home as I hadn't put the cap back on properly (good job I dye my hair blonde).

Took it out xc schooling (15 miles each way approx inc stopping to pick up / drop off a friends horse) then to a BS show (23 miles each way approx) and then to Wales and West (125 miles each way).

The fuel light came on about 10 miles from home so I am expecting it to cost around £80 to fill it up again.

So a total of around 325 miles to £80.....good / bad / indifferent?

I've had this lorry a while and never really thought about fuel economy as it wasn't going long distances but i was musing on my way back from Wales (bored - no radio in the lorry!) and wondered how it compared to other boxes.

I don't know about my 3.5t lorry yet but my 4x4 towing my rice trailer with one horse would have done about 300 miles to a tank that cost just under £100... do't know if that helps! :)

I worked out that my 3.5t does about 300 miles from £30. Never topped it all the way up as it weighs more with a full tank and im never rich enough to put more in in one go!!

It does alot less with both horses in though and if the journey is hilly.

Tend not to think about it too much!! Best not to put prices/costs on horses keep!! x

That sounds very good, but I'm surprised a lorry of that size would have such a small fuel tank. £80 to fill, only gives about a 50l tank, my car has a bigger tank than that.

My 7.5t lorry does about 100miles per 25l, but the tank is 100l big -hence 400miles for a full tank, but this is fully laden.

I agree the tank is not huge. The angle of where it is means I can't really fill it to a true 'full' as I can't get the angle on the filler. So when it's just over 7/8 full I can't get anymore in....

I know, ours is fab! its an 'L' reg LDV one and is brilliant! cheaper to run than my 206 but obviously slooower!! Going up steep hills can drain it but on flattish roads we can do massive mileage before topping up. My car does just under 200 miles with £20.
