Horsebox handbrake - annoying!

Hi,

So I've had my handbrake tightened twice now and it's still not holding when on a hill! This is proving difficult to manage considering that I bloodhound and often the car parks are a matter of squeezing in a space somewhere in the peak district. When it's tightened, it tends to work for 2-3 runs out and then goes back to what it was before.

Rather than have it tightened... is there something I'm missing or anything that I can do to fix this once and for all?!

I had to stay in the box the other day whilst my friend loaded her pony with my foot on the brake!

Any help is appreciated as it's driving me mad.

We had that on an old Bedford because the mechanic was trying to save us money. We eventually got fed up and told him to fix the damned thing instead of tinkering with it.

I think thats what he's done the last time as I told him about it but think he just tightened it. I've just asked a mechanic friend and he said it's stretched too much and needs replacing which is frustrating as thats what I asked the horsebox mechanic to do last time!

Sounds familiar! £70 a time to tighten it to "save" us £300 in fixing it once and for all, and never mind the safety aspect of trying to hold a 7.5t truck on the clutch at traffic lights on a hill!

The third time it happened, we had to give him an ultimatum to fix it or we'd find another mechanic.

I think thats where I'm at. I had to stay in the box with my foot on the brake yday whilst my friend loaded her youngster. Not ideal!

Thanks- it's good to know someone else has faced this issue- the box is sound and I love it; I just need the bliming handbrake sorted!

If tightening it isn’t working then surely he needs to put a new cable in? On the 3.5 ton I used to have I was told that’s what we’d need to do when tightening it up stopped working (sold the box for other reasons before it got to that point)
