Morning :) I am just wondering if anyone knows of a good horsebox dealer ideally in South East / West but will travel. I never knew looking for a horsebox was going to be so stressful! Having had our heart broken at the weekend finding the perfect lorry and thinking I had at last got my dream lorry after 7 months of searching, to be then told the next viewer had first refusal and it was obvious no one was not going to like it, I am now trying to find some motivation to keep looking knowing not a lot is going to live up to that lorry now! I don't think I am asking the impossible just a quality compact 7.5t in good condition I have a reasonable budget but not enough to get a new build. I am wondering if I am missing any hidden gem of dealers that anyone could point me in the direct of please, or message me with ones to avoid would be good too!

I would ask your lorry mechanic and if you haven't got one, ask for recommendations and then ask them. That is how my friend found her workhorse 7.5. Added bonus that the mechanic had looked after said lorry for a while and knew exactly what the state of play was with it.

Thanks he is looking out for us, that would be a perfect way to find one

2 friends who bought off them have had huge problems - ....

Really? :confused3:
I haven't used them myself, but a couple of friends have & they've been v happy, another had a fab new box from them last year & is equally still chuffed with it.
Edited to add, they do have 2nd hand 'other make' boxes in as well as new build.

Luci07, were these new boxes/ built to order or older px'd ones? Only asking as they are local to me & I haven't read one bad thing about them over the yrs, genuinely asking as I have no axe to grind either way.

I went with Horsebox seller but had a bad experience with them so I opted to buy privately in the end.

I too got shund as I had my mechanic up and said yes first after I got the ok with mechanic, only to find the seller went to the viewer from the day before and said she had mechanic which passed it so offer me full price and it is yours. After I paid mechanic fees and pre purchase test everything

I went to Central England horseboxes, clutch went on test drive but seller said would replace & do MOT. Got cold feet when was asked for deposit before either of these were done. Ended up buying 5.2 ton box privately, got Hpi check & pre purchase check.

Priory tried to sell us a lovely box ,absolutely beautiful but when pressed for payload it had 680kg!, the horse would have had to drive itself. It should have been upgraded to 4.5 from 3.5 but then daughter couldn't have driven it without doing her test so we left it.

I've been to Central England Horseboxes & wasn't impressed. In my opinion I thought that the majority of boxes were in poor condition, vastly overpriced & the seller didn't know much about the lorries he was selling. He couldn't answer basic questions about them. I walked away. I've since bought a nice lorry privately & at a fraction of the cost of the CEH stock.

Sorry to here you missed out on that box weekend, still keeping my eye out for you so is are mechanic.
hope you dont mind if i pop this here.
I see some people seem to of had issues with a company, i cant seem to find any posts anywhere on the forum regarding problems,
if you have or you know someone that has can you pm me please with details i would be interested to hear them.
thanks in advance.

Thanks everyone I will look into those mentioned, but seems like private or dealer doesn't make much difference just luck of being in the right place and the right time :)

Thank you, I've upped my budget a bit now too if that helps!

I had exactly the same problems, I've now bitten the financial bullet and buying new. I had a 35K budget and had been looking for 3 years with no success. I thought having that sort of money available would mean I could buy a decent box. I've had to up my budget, a big decision, but feel happy I'm getting exactly what I want. Just not thinking about the cost lol!

We used The Horsebox Seller and as someone above had mentioned had some problems. Namely things that were supposed to have been repaired not and then having to wait a very long time with lots of following up calls (during which my O/H was accused of harassing them) to get it sorted. We have now had it 4 years though and it's been great.
He had a big selection and I think you could do worse than look there as long as you take a mechanic.

Horsebox seller, I believe, take in other peoples horseboxes & sell them on their behalf. They may check them over & may repair some things on them but basically anyone can arrange that work to be done. Surely it's far better & cheaper to find the horsebox for sale before it goes off the Horsebox seller & that way you'll get a much better deal?

I bought my current horsebox privately, just what I wanted & at a reduction on the asking price of almost 20% & this was not an expensive horsebox.I bought it before selling my old one as I didn't want to be without transport. I then sold my old one within 24 hours getting the price I wanted. Finding & buying & selling horseboxes is not rocket science. You have to know what you want, spend time searching for the one you want & be prepared to move quickly to view & buy. Don't hang about thinking for a couple of days over wether you want to buy or not because it will be gone.

Don't advertise for one either, the only people that respond to those adverts appear to be wanting to sell their rubbish. If someone has a good horsebox to sell they only have to advertise & people will contact them & it should be an easy sale.

I bought new from a dealer...never again I have had issues since day one hoping to get my money back but have no been without transport for 6 weeks (new lorry undriveable!)
