Have just sold 6.5t horsebox specifically so we can get a 3.5t for daughter to be able to drive as well.
She is 17 and has had license for 4mnths. So far no insurance company will give a quote for fully comp or just third party. Surely it must be possible somewhere as you can legally drive 3.5t at 17 on a full license?
Suggestions please.:(

My daughter is 17 too and passed her test a few months ago! I must admit there is no way that I would let her drive a 3.5 tonne horsebox especially loaded as she is no where near experienced yet! So I'm not surprised you haven't found a company who will insure her!

I rang companies when i turned 21yrs old regarding horsebox insurance and it was actually cheaper than my day to day car! Ended up buying a 4x4 though as needed to renew my current car. There are some companies online like go compare that do horse insurance i found that was the best route. Good luck! x

NFU were prepared to insure my 17yo on a 3.5 tonner for no extra cost over and above what we paid for my husband, some £330 per year at the time. This was five years ago now. Indeed the next year when the insurance on her car went up by £2500:eek3: I was seriously considering buying a 3.5 tonner for her to drive instead of a car.

Thanks SammyDingle. Will try NFU again, we tried with the first box we looked at but they said the value was too high. Am now looking at something cheaper.

Yes insurance is a minefield. It certainly makes your eyes boggle!

I also considered this! I managed to get insurance on my car (at 18) for £2400 and the box was well under £400. I seriously considered selling the car!!!

I used Anthony Reynolds when I was 19, and I'm another who found that the (fully comp) insurance on the lorry was markedly cheaper than the (3rd party) insurance on my £100 banger of a car!!
