What to do? I am currently insured with Anthony Evans. I just had my renewal through and it's only £250 + £111 (I think) for breakdown. I looked into changing companies as a few people have told me on here that they tow with horses on (but if I broke down on the motorway, I wouldn't want to be unloading horses. I have just got a quote from SEIB and it was way over £500-Help! I can't make a decision.

Funny, that is exactly the opposite of the experience I just had! I was third party fire and theft only with Antony Evans and they kept reducing the value of my lorry by 10% every year, which is silly on a 1986 bedford thats worth about £5k! It isn't really worth any less now than when I bought it tbh, as has had new tyres etc and a new starter motor. So I changed as they said that they wouldn't put the value up, and am now with SEIB for £50 less a year and am now fully comp!
Apparently mine is made cheaper by the fact that only I am insured to drive it, but none of my friends or OH can drive it anyway as all post-1997 licences (I took my HGV).
Might be worth trying NFU, also not all of the companies used by the recovery people Antony Evans refer you too will tow lorries with horses on, my local one (who I use for my servicing etc as well) always give people the option of aa low loader or calling out a specialist horse box rescue company who bring out another horsebox to pick up horses.

Having said that, I would be hesitant to unload my horse on a motorway hard shoulder, as he can be awkward to load into a different lorry.....and as the people from the resue place said to me, it is not really that different from going up a steep hill for the horses in the back, and at least means you are off the motorway quickly!

NFU all the way

Lorry wouldn't start on a Sunday morning so rang the NFU - the recovery people were next to the lorry within the hour - very very impressed
