Horsebox interior lights - colour?

A saint of a chap is doing the electrics on my little lorry at the moment, after years of bodged jobs by previous owners the poor chap was lost in a jumble of wires all day!

I would like some interior lights in the horse area, these would be used when the lorry is stationary and these will have white bulbs but I would like the option of having another one for a little light while the box is moving

There is about 4 inches above the ramp where the light would be visible to the rear, am I right in thinking this means it cannot be a white light? I'm sure I've been told it has to be red but also sure I have seen blue

Very excited, this will virtually double the value of the old rust bucket!!
 
Might be wrong but don't they have to be DEFRA approved now? Maybe I've dreamt it but might be worth just checking.
Blue is nice.

Welsh D you state that the lights can be seen from the rear of the lorry... The reason the lights have to be red is not to confuse vehicles travelling behind in the dark or fog suddenly coming across white lights and thinking they are highlights of an approaching car....

I have fitted Led lights in the rear of mine. Though the tailgate fully encloses the rear horse area. These are ordinarily 12v and therefore ideal. They are also available in different sizes and can even be cut to the length you require. You can also buy aluminium track and cut and fit to the size you require. Also now fairly inexpensive.

The main purpose I have put colour changeable LED lights is that we frequently travel in the early hours or late at night. Our horse is an interesting traveller and rather than let him travel back in a bright white lit box we can dim the lights and travel with a dark blue or violet colour which is far more relaxing and gives the horse enough light to be aware of his surroundings and enough for us to see him on the camera with what he is upto....

Very easy to install.....As another idea you can also get these single led bulbs that have the ability to change colour remotely from B&Q which you should be easily able to mount with a different type of light fitting...
 
Thank you all - the gap cannot be covered so will go for red then!

FC I'm not sure what the plan is, I know it will be a 12v system run off a separate leisure battery and it's own fuse box but beyond that I'm clueless lol
